YU (President CHOI Oe-chool) is recognized as the birthplace of young trade experts.

The Students of “the Regional Specialized Youth Trade Expert Training Project Team (GTEP Project Team)” were recognized for their expertise and practical capabilities by sweeping top prizes in major trade-related academic conferences and contests held in 2022. They won a total of 5 awards including 2 grand prizes in “the University Student FTA Utilization Conference,” “Undergraduate (Graduate) Student FTA Utilization Promotional Content Contest,” and “16th GTEP E-Commerce Contest” held by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Korea International Trade Association this year.

First of all, in “2022 University Student FTA Utilization Conference” held last November, BAEK So-min (4th grade of the Department of Trade), PARK Soo-hyun (3rd grader of the Department of Trade), and BAE Su-jin (4th grade of the Department of Chinese Language and Culture) of YU GTEP Project Team participated in the video section and won the top prize. This contest is a competition for thesis and video content production on policy measures to support the use of FTA (Free Trade Agreement) and on business models to use FTA. In “2022 Undergraduate (Graduate) Student FTA Utilization Promotional Content Contest” held the same month, PARK Da-eun, KIM Seong-min, and KIM Jae-won (4th grade of Faculty of International Trade) and LEE Tae-ho (4th grade of Department of English Language and Literature) from YU GTEP Project Team won the grand prize in the utilization idea category. The contest is a competition to produce promotional content in all areas of FTA agreements such as tariffs, services, investments, intellectual property rights, and non-tariff barriers in order to publicize the importance of the use of FTA. In particular, the students of YU GTEP Project Team won the grand prize in this competition in 2021 and this is the honor of the award for consecutive two years. In addition, in the 16th GTEP E-Commerce Contest for the students of GTEP Project Teams from countrywide universities, the students of YU GTEP Project Team won three prizes including Excellence Award, Special Selection, and Honorable Mention.

The students of YU GTEP Project Team are improving their capabilities through theories of foreign trade including market analysis, foreign marketing, buyer counseling education, etc. as well as education for languages and foreign trade practice and through visits to foreign EXPO with staff of small and medium enterprises. YU implemented TI (Trade Incubator) Project of the Ministry of Industrial Resources in 2002 as the start and has been operating GTEP Project for 21 years now; it is now operating Class 16 of GTEP Project Team.

LEE Hee-yong, the head of YU GTEP Project Team, said, “Students of YU GTEP Project Team are building not only trade-related expertise but also a wealth of practical capabilities and field experiences required by companies through dispatch to various overseas fairs. They stand out in various competitions based on strong basic skills and practical capabilities.. I hope that students may evaluate their own skills by participating in various competitions and realize their dreams as trade experts step by step.”
